You treat more than just backs!?

During our CPR re-certification, a student expressed that he had hurt his wrist and was unable to perform proper chest compressions. We offered to take a look at his wrist and he appeared quite confused. He was unaware that chiropractors could treat wrists.

“All chiropractors do is crack your back!”

What? No.

Let us take a moment to clarify what a chiropractor is and their role in your health!

Chiropractors are doctors that assess, diagnose, and treat disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal sytem. Neuro-musculo-what!? Your nerves, bones, joints, muscles, and all other tissues that are connected.

Is the spine the only place in your body with bones, nerves, joints, and muscles? No way! Chiropractors treat all bones, nerves, joints, and muscles of the body. This means head-to-toe! For a more thorough list of conditions we treat, click here.

Chiropractors also love to educate their patients on dysfunction and disease prevention, focusing on the root of the problem instead of the symptoms, with the goal of improving quality of life and promoting optimal health and wellness.

Chiropractors, like medical doctors, complete a minimum of three to four years of an undergraduate degree at a university. Following their first degree, they undergo four vigorous years of doctorate schooling. That’s a minimum of eight years post-secondary education! This is very similar to going to medical school, but with a lot more emphasis on anatomy and manual therapy. Chiropractic education is heavily focused on anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, biomechanics, pathology, diagnosis, radiology, manual therapeutics, and rehabilitation. Additionally, chiropractic students complete a one-year clinical internship in fourth year, practicing, developing, and refining their clinical skills while treating real patients.

Chiropractors are primary health care providers.

In British Columbia, only certain professions are awarded the title of “Doctor”. These include Chiropractors, Dentists, Naturopathic Physicians, Medical Doctors, Optometrists, Podiatrists, Pharmacists, and Doctors of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Chiropractors are fully qualified doctors! We love to help you any way we can!
